Classes delivered by some of Irelands finest traditional Musicians.

All levels will be catered for and there will also be a special class, entitled ’Introduction to Irish Traditional Music’, geared towards 5 - 8 year olds who have yet to play any music.

Participants in this class will be given the opportunity to learn the basic skills in a range of instruments - tin whistle / fiddle / banjo / piano and button accordion and bodhran , as well as other aspects of Irish culture, such as dancing and traditional singing. Ceol Na Coille will create an outlet for participants to hear and learn the repetoire of visiting tutors and perform with them in nightly sessions.

There will also be a concert at the end of the week, to which family and members of the local community will be invited. The project will afford an opportunity to cultivate a sense of communitas, with Irish music and cultural activities at its core. It will also highlight and celebrate the rich and diverse repertoire of the North west and particularly the Donegal hinterland. Ultimately it is hoped that the Summer School will help to bring about a musical renaissance in the area, creating a sense of excitement, and facilitating friendships through music, while offering an opportunity for parents and children to come together in a family friendly environment. Some of the regions finest performers and teachers will be on hand to deliver master classes and recitals in what will be a great week of music and fun for all.
