Publish date: 19/08/2021

This weekend will see some of the great names of the golfing world arrive in Donegal for the Irish leg of the Legend’s Tour. Hosted by our very own Irish golfing legend, Paul McGinley, whose Donegal credentials are well established, it promises to be a weekend to remember. Paul, whose parents both hail from Donegal, is no stranger to these parts and is sure to make an excellent host and ambassador for Donegal. He is excited to welcome his fellow Legends Tour players to the Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort for the Irish Legends presented by the McGinley Foundation from August 20-22.

Paul will be joined by many of the greats of the game including Ian Woosnam, Mark James, and Thomas Bjorn, to name just a few. The legends will also be joined by a host of local and international celebrities for the event. Donegal has a well-established reputation as a hidden gem among the great locations worldwide to experience top class golf, with a rich tradition of challenging courses for all levels of golfer. The historical back nine of the old Tom Morris course promises to serve up a very exciting finale to the main event which will challenge all participants to their limits.

Paul McGinley commented “Rosapenna is a brilliant venue and I know the players will enjoy the golf course, which is a combination of nine holes from the original Old Tom Morris design, played along the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, and nine holes designed and constructed a number of years ago by one of Ireland’s leading architects, Pat Ruddy”.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Jack Murray stated “The weekend promises to be a very exciting time in Donegal’s Golfing Calendar because it gives us the opportunity to welcome back not only many golfing legends that have played here in the past, but also a host of well-known celebrities who can experience a true Donegal Céad Míle Fáilte and sample just some of what our great county has to offer.”

All in all, a great weekend of not only golf, but also the famous Donegal welcome will also be evident for those attending the event.
