Donegal featured heavily in Irish Independent Top 100 experiences for 2026

7 Donegal businesses have been spotlighted in the Irish Independent Ready Steady Go List published in the newspaper over the weekend.

From Perfect Pubs to Small and Secret Stays, experiences from the county took centre stage amongst the country’s best offerings for 2026.

Inis Keel Sauna at Narin beach was recommended by journalist Kathy Donaghy in the “New to the hood” category, while McGrory’s of Culdaff was named as one of her “absolute favourite places” in the “Small and secret stays” section of the article.  Deirdre McGlone (formerly Harvey’s Point) highlights Carrick Gate guesthouse as her choice for “Small and Secret Stays” saying “it combines comfort, style and a personalised welcome.”

The “characters” at Conways of Ramelton were highlighted under “Perfect Pubs” by travel blogger Criostóir Connolly, flagged for being “intimate, cosy, alive with trad music and tucked away in a quiet corner of Donegal.”

Sasha Coen and her Donegal Chef experience is described by chef Brian McDermott as being a “brilliant way to explore the wild beauty of Donegal while indulging in exceptional food.’ While he also recommends his local “Moville Shore Path” – both falling under the “Walks on the Wild Side” category.

The Moville Shore Path

Both Deirdre McGlone and Brian McDermott highlight Biddy’s O’Barnes at Barnesmore Gap as a “perfect pub” with Brian reminiscing over “that Biddy’s smell” of the comforting blend of old turf, aged timber and nostalgia that reminds him of his grandparent’s house. Meanwhile Deirdre notes the scent of the glowing turf fire and the kind of warm welcome that makes you feel instantly at home.’
