49th Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival Announces Spectacular Lineup

BALLYSHANNON, CO. DONEGAL – Get ready for a phenomenal weekend of music, culture, and craic on the Wild Atlantic Way. The organising committee of the Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival is thrilled to announce the stellar lineup for the 49th annual festival, taking place from Thursday, 30th July to Sunday, 2nd August.

As the oldest continually running folk and traditional music festival in Ireland, Ballyshannon once again prepares to welcome audiences to the vibrant heart of County Donegal. This year's program promises an unforgettable celebration featuring a mix of legendary acts, beloved local heroes, and exceptional traditional talent.
Headlining the 2026 festival are sensational acts including The Seeger Sessions, the legendary Frankie Gavin and DeDannan, and beloved Irish singer-songwriter Mundy. The weekend will also see electrifying performances from George Murphy and The Rising Sons, Johnny Gallagher and The Big Boxty Ceili Band, and many more.

Beyond the marquee concerts, visitors can look forward to lively pub sessions, street entertainment, our annual Legend Sessions featuring When Johnny Meets Session, Jam at the Dam, Ballyshannon Samba Band and lots more happening throughout the town.



A cornerstone of the festival's mission is nurturing the next generation of musical talent. Each year, our highly anticipated showcase competition provides a vital platform for up-and-coming artists to break through and be heard. The competition winners earn the prestigious opportunity to step onto the main stage, sharing the spotlight and the weekend's bill with some of the biggest legends in folk and traditional music. It is a thrilling highlight of the weekend, ensuring that the rich musical heritage we celebrate continues to evolve and thrive for years to come.

The Seeger Sessions

The Donegal Dancers Show

Mundy
One of Ireland’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, Mundy has been capturing the hearts of audiences for decades with multi-platinum albums and massive hits like "July" and his iconic rendition of "Galway Girl." Frankie Gavin and DeDannan
True royalty of Irish traditional music. Led by the virtuoso, lightning-fast fiddle playing of Frankie Gavin, DeDannan has been at the forefront of the global trad scene since the 1970s. They continue to push the boundaries of the genre while remaining deeply, authentically rooted in the pure tradition.
George Murphy and The Rising Sons
Blending a gritty, authentic voice with the finest elements of the Dublin folk and ballad tradition, George Murphy and his band offer a passionate, foot-stomping live show. Having burst onto the scene with a voice well beyond his years, George's performances resonate deeply with lovers of classic Irish storytelling.
Johnny Gallagher and The Big Boxty Ceili Band
Renowned internationally for his explosive guitar skills and dynamic stage presence, local powerhouse Johnny Gallagher brings a fiery fusion of blues, rock, and trad. Seamie O'Dowd

Rory O'Dowd

The Kicking Donkeys
A highly spirited local favourite, this band knows exactly how to get a festival crowd moving. Expect a lively, energetic set packed full of traditional tunes, folk classics, and infectious enthusiasm that perfectly captures the weekend's festive spirit.
Ballyshannon Samba Band
The Ballyshannon Samba Band brings a vibrant burst of carnival energy to the streets of Ballyshannon! This dynamic percussion ensemble is guaranteed to get the festival crowds moving. Known for their thunderous beats, colourful performances, and infectious enthusiasm, this rhythmic powerhouse blends traditional Brazilian samba with a phenomenal live street presence that perfectly captures the weekend's festive spirit.
