A Place in Ireland, Donegal A Poem by Rachel Ní Nuaít, Age 16, Co. Wexford Why not visit somewhere new? A place where the sky is blue. Try somewhere you’ve never been before, with sunsets and sun rises galore. This is Donegal. Hop on a boat and sail through Lough Swilly, you could even swim but it might be chilly. Rathmullan, Ramelton, Inishowen, Buncrana and Ballybofey too, wherever you go – you’re bound to be amused. All the places to go, all the things to see, just go ahead and you could be – looking down from Malin Head, you can’t go further north than that. Sliabh Liag mightn’t have much fame, but to leave Donegal without seeing the county’s highest cliffs would be a shame. Why not go out to Fanad? And take a look at the lighthouse. Its so quiet up there you won’t even hear a mouse. Take a tour around the peninsula while you’re here, Ballymastocker Beach, Horn Head and Dunfanaghy are there to be seen .If you’re extra keen why not go up Errigal or Mamore Gap for more views and sights. Letterkenny is perfect for the shops, you can get anything from cars to dresses to mops. If you want to get done up for a meal in the restaurant that you’re staying near, pop into one of the salons and it won’t be too dear. Donegal’s home stadium is in Ballybofey, if you like sport you should go there for the day. From football clubs to tennis clubs to swimming pools to grass areas and parks, Donegal has it all. From spa trips in Letterkenny to apartments beside the beach in Rathmullan, Donegal won’t let you down. I’ve been going since I was 10 in 2015 – now I’m 16 and continue to go. So ….. Why not visit somewhere new? A place where the sky is blue, Donegal has it all and will be perfect for you.
