Donegal has no shortage of natural attractions, but Sliabh Liag is certainly up there as a contender for the most stunning of them all. The famous cliffs are amongst some of the highest in Europe reaching approximately 601 metres. These gorgeous cliffs are a defining part of the Donegal coastline and should be on your bucket list if you are visiting Donegal.
Getting there is no hassle. The visitor centre, which is located about 5 to 10 minutes from the cliffs provide regular shuttle buses, making it easy to find your way to the cliffs. Many local tour companies also provide guided tours of Sliabh Liag, and boat tours of the waters beneath.

Once you arrive at the starting point, it is really up to you how you approach your journey. If you are feeling a more casual visit, it is only a short walk from the upper car park to the viewing platform. For more avid hikers, this is where your journey will begin. It is certainly a tough journey, with the rough terrain and several ups and downs that accompany the journey to the top of the cliffs, but a journey that is definitely worth it. The journey itself can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on how experienced a hiker you are.

It should be noted the like everywhere else in Ireland, the weather can be unpredictable, so bringing appropriate clothing is highly recommended. For those planning to complete the walk, consider wearing suitable hiking footwear.
Sliabh Liag is definitely a location you should consider visiting if you come to Donegal. Its natural beauty is truly a worthwhile experience and the rugged terrain makes it feel like it has been untouched by the world around.
