Here's some suggestions for some slow days in Donegal!


1. “The Gentle North”
Where the Wild Atlantic Way softens into quiet bays and time feels irrelevant.
Day 1 – Drift into the Peninsula

  • Late morning: Arrive in Buncrana, linger over coffee and scones at a cosy cafe.
  • Gentle stroll on the shore path to Swan Park; sit and watch the river drift past.
  • Afternoon: Drive the short coastal loop to Dunree Fort — skip the timetable, stay as long as you like on the cliff walks.
  • Sunset: Find a quiet bench at Lisfannon Beach, wrap up, and watch the sky change colours.
Day 2 – Unrushed Coastal Drive

  • Morning: Meander up towards Mamore Gap, stopping for photos (and deep breaths).
  • Picnic at Glenevin Waterfall — take your time on the short trail.
  • Afternoon: Drive north to Malin Head, but don’t rush the journey — pull over for viewpoints.
  • Evening: Seafood dinner in Ballyliffin, slow walk back to your accommodation under the stars.
Day 3 – Tidal Time

  • Morning: Take a leisurely hike on one of the many walking trails in the area or visit Malin Head, the most northerly point in Ireland!
  • Lunch in Malin village, people-watch in the square.
  • Afternoon: Take the long way back via Culdaff and Moville, pausing at coves.

Slow days in Donegal’s cultural hub and green valleys.
Day 1 – Ease Into Town

  • Morning browse at Donegal County Museum or Regional Cultural Centre — no rush.
  • Afternoon: Drive out to Newmills Corn and Flax Mill, linger by the river.
  • Evening: Take in a slow meal at a local pub with live trad.
 
Day 2 – Glenveagh’s Quiet Corners

  • Morning: Coffee in Churchill, then drive to Glenveagh National Park.
  • Take the shuttle or walk slowly to the castle gardens — spend time sketching or photographing flowers.
  • Lunch at the tea rooms, then a book by the lake.
  • Evening: Return to Letterkenny, detour via Lough Gartan for golden hour.
Day 3 – "Me Time" and Meander

  • Coffee break, then on to Loughros Point — short strolls and long pauses.
  • Afternoon: Narin Beach, sit in the dunes.
  • Dinner: Fresh fish at a local restaurant.
Day 2 – The Glen and the Falls

  • Morning: Visit Assaranca Waterfall; stay until you’ve seen it from every angle.
  • Continue to Maghera Beach and caves — if the tide’s right, explore slowly.
