Founded in 2006, and opening our gates for the first time in the spring of 2007, we are an association of Public and Private Gardens. In 2019 we will have 22 member gardens spread throughout County Donegal from Innishown to Kilcar. Many private gardens proudly collect donations for local charities.
Our membership includes long established historic gardens as well as newly made gardens. We are proud of our diversity from extensive horticultural masterpieces like Glenveagh and Oakfield Park to beautiful jewel-like cottage gardens and a great range in between all bursting with colour throughout the spring and summer.
Our Trail, which winds its way around the County, offers garden lovers many opportunities to access and enjoy a broad range of gardens. All are lovingly tended and boast wide-ranging examples of traditional and innovative garden displays; living heritage in fact. Many combine nurture with nature, actively encouraging habitats for native flora and fauna with emphasis on sustainability and biodiversity. We offer geographically grouped gardens so that the visitor can also take in Donegal’s spectacular scenery and pristine environment along the way, indeed many of our gardens are located on or near the Wild Atlantic Way.
Travelling the length and breadth of the County you will discover a long established tradition of ornamental horticulture which began in monastic and castle gardens and continued in cottage and country houses. Our gardens are a continuation of this rich tradition.
Brochures are available in Failte Ireland/Tourist Offices, as well as online on our website.
