Since 1991, Fisherman Out of Ireland has been producing knitwear blending the ancient techniques and material of Donegal knitting enlivened by modern styling and clever use of color and luxury yarns. Fisherman Out of Ireland uses only natural fibers, and much of the yarn is spun by Donegal Yarns, also in Kilcar, alongside internationally-sourced cashmere and alpaca blends, pure Merino and lambswool for luxurious insulation. In the signature Fisherman Out of Ireland style, the ribs and stitches inspired by traditional Aran patterns are combined with a fresh perspective in sweaters, hats and scarves to define the total modern Irish look. Louise Elliott, the designer for Fisherman, cites The lovely Irish landscape as inspiration for the colors used in her designs. Elliot credits the grasses and heather of the coastal landscape; sand, rock and seaweed and the ocean blues. This reflects our natural, earthy look and is generally kinder to the environment. The village of Kilcar, home to Fisherman Out of Ireland, is located in Southwest Donegal, between the fishing port of Killybegs and majestic cliffs of Slieve League. Fisherman Out of Ireland employs a loyal local team of 21 people, many of whom have been with the company from the start. Come visit the newly opened showroom at Ballymoon Kilcar.
