Nestled along the Wild Atlantic Way in the picturesque town of Ardara - one of the five designated heritage towns in County Donegal - you will find the hidden gem that is Triona. Triona was awarded Bord Fáilte Eireann recognition as the certified Donegal Tweed Visitor Centre in 1992 and offers all who visit the opportunity to experience the history, skill, and craft that has gone into handweaving Donegal Tweed for generations as well as the chance purchase authentic Irish tweed.

In 1984, ten years after the collapse of the local tweed industry, Dennis Mulhern founded Triona, named for his eldest daughter, as a small bespoke tweed company, in the front room of his family home in Ardara. As the Mulhern family business expanded, “The Mart”, which had historically been the central marketplace where all the local tweed was produced, inspected, stored and sold, became the new home of Triona. From humble beginnings, the Mulhern family and Triona now welcome thousands of visitors from all around the world to their spacious Ardara factory, based in the location where Donegal Tweed was born. Traditional handweaving demonstrations, heritage tours, and educational audio-visual experiences are available daily at both the Triona Donegal Tweed Visitor Centre in Ardara and the family’s second shop, Irish House, located on the famous Diamond in Donegal Town.

Since 1984 Triona has provided those who have an appreciation for authentic Irish crafts and design with the opportunity to purchase high-quality products at their location in the heart of the historic market town of Ardara, Co. Donegal. The Mulherns, who founded and own Triona, are fifth generation handweavers and have a strong desire to ensure that the centuries-old Donegal tradition of handweaving is maintained and preserved. All of their Triona tweed is made from 100% Irish lambswool. Once woven, it is tailored to produce unique pieces of clothing including coats, jackets, and capes which combine premium quality, achieved through generations of skill and tradition, with fresh, contemporary styles and patterns. From start to finish, experienced craftspeople ensure that all the garments you’ll find at Triona are made to the highest standards and are worthy of their time-honoured Irish heritage.

The Mulhern family are proud of their Irish heritage and they aim to preserve and promote it by showcasing Irish talent to a worldwide audience through their unwavering support of authentic Irish crafts and design. They pride themselves on the quality of the Irish products they offer, to that end, Triona proudly stocks the family’s own Triona tweed jackets, coats and capes for women as well as a range of classic men’s tweed jackets alongside other leading Irish Brands such as Fisherman out of Ireland Knitwear, Aran Woollen Mills, Aran Crafts, Mucros Weavers, and Hanna Hats. You will also find high quality Irish jewellery including an unrivalled selection of exclusive pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets from established brands such as House of Lor, Solvar, Facet, and Tracy Gilbert.
