Donegal Artist Sinead Gallagher Returns Home for First Solo Exhibition in the County
After more than 20 years working as a professional painter abroad, Letterkenny native Sinead Gallagher is back in Donegal — and marking the occasion with her first solo exhibition in the county.
The exhibition will take place this September at the Lifford Courthouse, a new exhibition space for arts and culture in Donegal. It is a significant moment for Sinead, who spent over two decades living and working in Germany and North America. She recently relocated to Kilcar with her husband, filmmaker and poet Marc Littler.
Sinead’s career has taken her across Europe and North America. She has held more than 40 solo and group exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland. Her work has appeared in international art magazines, on album covers, and in private collections across North America, Europe, and Ireland.
In Germany, she also runs her own artist studio and exhibition space outside Frankfurt, where she has curated over 20 exhibitions to date.
Since returning to Donegal in 2022, she has opened a second artist studio in Kilcar and taken on the role of Assistant Director of the newly launched Kilcar International Film Festival (KIFF), set to return in February 2026.
Her upcoming exhibition Home Shores at the Lifford Courthouse opens on Sunday, September 7th, from 2–5 pm, with a closing event on Sunday, September 28th, also from 2–5 pm. Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm, and private viewings can be arranged by emailing gallagher.fineart@gmail.com.
