Discovering Donegal's Maritime Mysteries

Nestled in the picturesque town of Greencastle, the Martime Museum of Co. Donegal stands as a beacon of Ireland's rich nautical heritage. This museum, more than just a collection of artifacts, is a gateway to the past, where the roaring seas and the tales of those who braved them come alive.

.

Donegal County Council and Donegal Tourism have announced the launch of a new cross-channel marketing campaign, "Donegal - It's Ours/It's Yours". This strategic campaign positions Donegal as one of Ireland's best-kept secrets – and playfully highlights the locals' attempts to keep this stunning county under wraps.

The campaign features the comedic talents of comedian and Donegal native Eric Roberts, who brings his unique brand of humour to the fore, leading the charge in this light-hearted and engaging campaign. Spanning digital, PR, social, and VOD channels, the campaign is set to reach a vast audience of potential visitors seeking an unforgettable experience in Ireland.

Fort Dunree

Amist the rugged beauty of Co. Donegal, perched stragically overlooking the vastness of Lough Swilly, stands Fort Dunree. A silent sentinel with a history as vast and deep as the waters it overlooks, Fort Dunree is an embodiment of Donegal's military and maritime legacy. Let's engage on a journey through time and title, as we explore the layered tapestry of this iconic fort.

Donegal Town Celebrates 550 Years

Next year, 2024, Donegal Town will mark its 550th Birthday. Its origins can be traced back to 1474, when Lady Nuala O'Donnell established a Franciscan Abbey on the shores of Donegal Bay. Around the same time, her husband Red Hugh O'Donnell the First, Lord of Tir Chonaill founded Donegal Castle. The Town of Donegal grew up around these two great buildings and became the capital of Tir Chonaill.
